Located in the very heart of the "Land of the Bastides", Monpazier was created in
1284 under the reign of King of England
Edward 1, and still has today its original size and aspect. Eight centuries after its creation, the bastide of Monpazier is still a
jewel of medieval architecture, undisputedly one of the most beautiful bastides in Europe.
As the
most beautiful French bastide, it has been raised to the rank of
"Grand National Site", together with Capdrot and
Biron in 1991; it is also one of the
"Most Beautiful Villages in France".
Numerous events (click above) and guided tours are organized
all year round (upon prior reservation for groups);
everyday at 11:00 a.m. and 03:00 p.m. in July and August; on Tuesdays and Fridays at 14:30 p.m. in September and October.
