Heritage from the past and traditions... the architecture in the Double area
This house was originally built to meet the demands of the 19th-century autarkical way of life; it is therefore most typical of the houses in the area:
only one living room, one oven, a pigstay and a sheepfold. This area was then very poor and its inhabitants used natural materials to build:
oak for the framework, clay (omnipresent in the area) and rush (easily to be found due to the high number of lakes nearby). Four blocks of flint would then be used for the
foundations; and the walls were built with woodtimberings (linked together thanks to woodpins), and cob made of clay and straw or clay and rush.

The chateau and the botanical park
The chateau nestles in a priviledged site amidst an incredible verdant settings (oaks, virbunums, dogwoods, willow trees, lilacs, etc.), hosting a mysterious
cave, and the Isle river like a mirror to its fine towers and a shelter to lazy carps.
Built between the middle ages and the Renaissance period, it bears modifications dating back to the 18th century. The three styles can also be seen
inside; huge fireplaces and arched rooms, rare three-level stone sink, Renaissance frescoes in the Henri IV room, huge Louis XV lounge, traditional
17th and 18th century Perigord furniture. A guided tour will lead you to discover the awful murder of Marquis de Saint Astier, the romanesque lies of the
false Marquise and the glorious past of this beautiful listed monument, today a shelter for kids within the frame of the socio-educative Intitute.
