In the Périgord Noir area, but bordering on the Corrèze department,
Terrasson Lavilledieu is lined up by the Vézère river and is the gate to the Valley listed by the UNESCO in the World Heritage. The town is rather privileged by the presence of two
major highways (A20 and A89); it is also located next to the major sites to be visited in the area: the Jardins de l'Imaginaire,
the gardens "à la française" of Eyrignac, Lascaux II,
Hautefort, etc. The city's name can be found as soon as in 542 in the French listings.
Formerly a Gallo-Roman city, Terrasson had its first Benedictin abbey built as soon
as at the end of the 6th century. Its strategic situation and very accessible location, favoured the Norman invasions; battles also took place there during the 100-year War
and during the French Wars of Religion. Strolling around this town perched on top of a hill, will lead you to discover very beautiful 12th-century and Renaissance houses. |

Various events are organized all the year round: Festival des Chemins de l'Imaginaire (street festival), Salon
du Livre des Jardins et du Paysage (book festival - last week-end of May), concerts, Xmas market, "marché au gras et aux truffes" (for truffles and foie-gras) every thursday morning.

Today, Terrasson is the capital town of a district that includes 6,500 inhabitants; it is industrially dynamic, tourism-oriented, and warm-welcoming. When you stay in the area,
you get a chance to discover the Valley of the Vézère river and its numerous and varied prehistoric sites (among which the world-famous Lascaux), the chateaus, the various activities
offered (hiking, canoeing, etc.), not forgetting the well-known and most beautiful capital town of the Perigord Noir area: Sarlat.
