In France, Perigord comes second most visited region after the Ile-de-France, and all the regions facing either a sea or the Atlantic ocean. It is visited both by the French and by foreigners.

Besides its world-famous gastronomy, it is well-known for its rich past: men have lived here since prehistoric eras (Les Eyzies, Lascaux), they have built here an incredible number of fascinating chateaux and medieval cities (Sarlat, Domme); you can see here amazingly beautiful and preserved sites, such as: Beynac, La Roque-Gageac, the valleys of the Dordogne and Vézère rivers.

Perched on a rocky spur, the medieval village of Beynac, and its feudal fortress, overlooks the Dordogne river and really deserves the qualifying "one of France's most beautiful villages"; it certainly is one most fascinating site to be admired in Perigord. The best way to see it is undoubtedly when you cruise on board the replica of an ancient "gabarre" (English guided cruise).

Castelnaud, Fayrac, Marqueyssac and Lacoste are the four wonderful chateaux you'll have the opportunity to discover.

The gabarres are the flat-bottomed boats that used to serve for the wood commerce in the 19th century. One was replicated for the French TV programme "Rivière Espérance"; since then, they have never stopped being used as the best way to discover the landscape...

Departures take place every 30 minutes in July and August
Duration of the cruise: 50 minutes
Tickets are being sold either on the parking or on board the gabarres, depending on the season
